Hello, My father passed away in July, He has left around €40,000 in cash, About €9000 of this is to be used for his bills and burial. He did leave a Will and stated that the remainder should be divided between his children. My question is, Will the remainder of the money need to go into probate and if so how long can this take.

You should contact the probate office at 01 - 8886000 , outline the details as to how your late father's assets were held and ask them is it neccessary to extract a Grant.

All the paper work was filled out by my sister in the bank as dad left it up to her, so do you think it will go in to probate. Who decides if it has to go to probate,

If your late father held €40,000 in the Bank then I think they will certainly require sight of a Grant before they will release the funds to the Executor.
