When is a crash a crash?

I suspect when buying a secondhand car from a dealer that there is an obligation to declare whether it has been crashed or not. My question is, what constitutes a crash ... is damage to the bodywork a crash or just a ding?

AFAIK, they are obliged to tell you if they KNOW it has been crashed. If they claim that the previous owner didn't tell them, then they are clear.
