wedding venues.......yet again

Dropping well in Milltown - a friend had this booked for her wedding but then decided on The Clarence.

Ha ha don't I know it - I thought I'd make preliminary enquiries then in a few months see registrar and arrange a date - all done over the phone in two minutes!. Still thinking about venue thing of course but I have a few months for that one I expect. Many thanks truthseeker - I am holding you responsible for this! Have to say though am relieved that it's finally done, we have kept putting it off for various reasons, house, bills, family not here etc etc - eventually you just have to do it!!:D

Yikes - responsible for people getting married, thats a new one Im guilty of!!!

Ill let you know if there is anything unexpected at the registry office appointment next week, have all my documentation ready for it, dont anticipate anything unusual but if there is anything to report ill come back and let you know.

I will be investigating venues myself shortly - we are going with small dinner on day of wedding with larger party the next night so not quite what youre after, but if I do come across anywhere nice that might suit your needs on my investigations Ill let you know.

I would really appreciate that truthseeker thank you!

So had my appointment with the registrar yesterday - first piece of advice, leave plenty of time to get there, traffic along the canal is terrible!!!

Its very easy and quick. We went in, the registrar who dealt with us took our birthcerts and passports, photocopied both, and then went through legalities of marraige in Ireland. He filled out some onscreen stuff, we signed some forms and then he talked to us about the actual ceremony and the various options (its optional to do readings, own vows, exchange of rings), explained about having your own music etc... All very friendly and accomodating.

We picked our date, got booked in and that was that.

He gave us his contact details to phone if there was any change in plans (if a witness couldnt make it for example).

No surprises and very very easy.

Criteria as follows: Small wedding (40 people tops), civil ceremony, want to get married in evening ceremony (5pm ish) then nice drinks/cocktail reception then nice meal followed by drinking in to wee hours.

Any more ideas along these lines?

We're looking for something like this in Dublin, ceremony probably in the registry office, then nice meal for 30-40 people (good quality food is important to us, ideally with a bit of a choice for the guests), then *maybe* have a DJ for a 2-3 hours (mainly for the benefit of the children who will be coming, who love to dance!). We're not party animals, so it won't be a late night.

So we're looking for a nice restaurant/hotel with a private function room for 30-40 people, and the ability to clear tables away afterwards for a little dancing (so a wooden floor would be good). If there was a quiet corner for the "older" guests to get away from the music, that would be great.

There was a good article in Saturday's Independent about the Station HOuse in Kilmessan (was there years ago but not recently) where it said they specialised in civil weddings, meals and a separate bridal cottage. Just thought I'd throw in a Co Meath location as it was mentioned in the original post

Some friends had their reception in the Odessa Club. I'm not sure if they'd have been able to have the ceremony there, but it was lovely.

Food for 50, separate bar upstairs, with balcony area and scope for a DJ (though I've been at parties there where there wasn't one, and they let us put on an iPod).

Been reading these threads as I'm interested in B&B accommodation in October in Kilmessan as I'm attending a wedding at The Station House Hotel. Can't see any recent posts so would be great to hear if anyone has any recommendations please?
