Laya Waiting Period served?

Hi guys,

Just a couple of questions related to Health Insurance renewal. 2 adults, one 20-year old and 14 year old. Due to cost and considering changing from Flex 500 Explore (Laya) to One Plan 500 (VHI). Cover somewhat similar but wary of waiting periods.

Have pre-existing condition of diabetes present here. Have had health insurance for over 30 years (VHI, Bupa, Laya) no break in cover. Is it still necessary to serve a (maybe 5 year) waiting period with new insurer or have I served it with Laya already?

If there’s a problem/restriction might consider keeping both adults with Flex 500 Explore and transferring “Kids” (20 years old young adult and 14 year old) to One Plan 500.

Thanks
RM

R. Moore,

Laya Flex 500 Explore would have better cover than VHI One Plan 500, especially regarding orthopaedic cover in private hospitals and hi-tech hospital cover overall. They are very similar in price so I would stay where you are.

Regarding the 14 and 20 yr old, the 2 best value options are with VHI.
14 yr old; One + Plan; price 137pa; all public, private and hi-tech hospitals covered, inpatient excess 125 per admission or day case.
20 yr old; PMI 12 11; Price 349pa; all public, private and hi-tech hospitals covered, inpatient excess 125 per admission or day case.

Alternatively, if price is still an issue One Plan 150 would be a better option for both 14 and 20 yr old compared to One plan 500. This is based on price but also the inpatient excess for admissions to private/hi-tech hospitals.
