VHI VHI Insurance Policy Renewal

Hello,

My sister is currently first-time health insurance subscriber, taking out a VHI PMI 43 16 policy last October.

With renewal due shortly, I would be grateful for advice on whether she should stick with the same policy or not.

Key considerations

* She has a pre-existing medical condition
* The nature of the condition requires that any policy fully cover the Bons in Tralee
* She does incur some day-day medical expenses which she has been claiming under her current policy
* She is expecting her first child in February
* She will be attending Cork University Maternity Hospital
* VHI are touting their Baby Bundle which at face value seems like a benefit worth paying for.

What would be the best policy(ies) for her to consider in light of the above?

Thanks in advance,
Tony.

djtonykirl,

Just to clarify, if your sister's pre-existing medical condition started before October 2017, there is a 5 year waiting time applied before full
hospital cover is allowed. If it commenced after October, there is no waiting time to serve.

An alternative plan worth considering is called 'Company Plan Plus Level 1.3' price 1128pa.
Details as follows;
Company Plan Plus Level 1.3; price 1128pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered. Private hospital excess 150 per admission or
50 excess per day case procedure. Day to day cover included, same as PMI 43 15 except a max refund per year of 1000 applies to new plan.
PMI 43 15 has a max refund of 3200 per year for day to day cover. If her expenses exceed 1000 per year, this new plan would not be suitable.

There is also a 50 euro cash back incentive if she signs up to pay by direct debit or by salary deduction before September 1 2018.
A further 50 refund is available if she signs up online to receive documentation online. Details on the following link;
