Using Reclaimed Brick

I am thinking of using reclaimed brick as a feature around a cast iron stove (solid fuel) in my new house. Is there anything i should look out for when buying the brick?

Sorry I can't answer your question but just wonder if you have to clean off all the bricks yourself (i.e. mortar?) etc.? Fairly time consuming job if so.

I would imagine that using reclaimed brick for the purposes you describe (as opposed to brick facing and external wall or whatever) would not be problematic. The only thing might be if the bricks will be able to take the heat to which they will be exposed by virtue of their proximity to the stove? Perhaps special fire/heat resistant bricks might be required depending on the temperatures involved?

I used hand-made bricks when I built the fireplace in our sitting room about 20 years ago. This has an open fire (used for most of the winter) and the bricks are approx 2 inches from the flames. I have never had to replace any bricks and they are as good as new.
They are relatively soft bricks which may be a factor.
