My sister lives in the UK and has being named in a will here in Ireland as a beneficiary. Does she need to do anything before the time comes to hand over to her any proceeds from the will.

She will only be liable to Irish tax as in the UK, it is the estate that gets taxed, not the beneficiary.

She will probable need to apply for a PPS number.

1. Must apply for PPS number if she doesn't have one.
2. Inheritance tax (if applicable) is paid at Irish rate (I had an overseas beneficiary who spent weeks insisting to me he didn't have to pay tax...yawn.. )
3. Executor should make sure that tax is paid (if applicable) before handing over bequest (or withholding assets to value of tax), as exec can be held liable if tax not paid by due date.
