Travel Insurance Whilst Already Abroad

My partner and I have annual travel insurance with Ace. We were both abroad together and he is still abroad. I have just realise that the policy expired on the 1st of March.

Most policies I have looked at require you to get cover before commencing a trip. Does anyone know of a way of insuring him whilst he is already on trip?
 
Renew the existing policy and presumably it will give the required continuation of cover (but check to be sure)?
