Title deeds released following mortgage switch

We switched our mortgage from EBS to NIB back in March this year. Yesterday I got a letter from EBS asking us to contact them so that they can begin to prepare our title deeds for release to us. I would have expected them to be transferred directly to NIB without involving us. What is the normal procedure here? Should I just get the title deeds from the EBS and keep them??

No, give them to the solicitor who arranged the remortgage for you. It could well be that what EBS call 'title documents' are not really originals at all but just in case...

Turns out that the letter from the EBS about releasing the title deeds was sent due to a system error. So they have been transferred to NIB as expected and I won't be getting my hands on them for a few years yet.
