That's a bit rich... why wealthy stars like Ryan Tubridy won't pay a cent in tax on their books

The artists exemption really needs to be looked at for this loophole - well not so much a loophole as a gigantic that should have been obvious.

Micky D doesn’t pay anything on his poetry books etc either and he’s far better off than Tubbs

Between the ministerial pension, the presidential pension, the UCG pension and his property income he’ll be well ahead of Tubbs. Then there’ll be his income as an intellectual, poet and the greatest living Irish man…

And he no doubt thinks people don't pay enough tax in the country.

Didn’t the rules change to the effect that a person can be in receipt of only one public sector pension???

That article is 12 years old. I believe the limit was reduced drastically.

Amazing how people will dig stuff up from 12 years ago to "have a go"

It belongs to either Reddit or the daily mail

He was in receipt of his NUI Pension before he became President. I don't think he stopped taking it. That's around €20k
He was also in receipt of a Ministerial Pension of around €90k. I believe he's not taking that while he's in office but will take it afterwards, along with his Presidential pension of €150k (60% of his salary). So his pensions will be €260k a year. Then there's his books and the income from his property portfolio and he'll get a tidy fee for speaking engagements.
In fairness he's got excellent credentials to be a socialist; rich, living off the State, never provided a job for an under privileged person in his life but looks down on the "greedy" people who earn significantly less than he does while actually provide the dignity of employment to others.
