Suggestions for reliable runaround ~6 yrs old?

Reliability would be my number one requirement, although of course there are no guarantees. I'm a big fan of the Fiesta, but these are the cars I would have considered down the years. Can anyone make a case for another to be added here? What's your favourite?
My preference is for 1.0 litre, but they seem to be in a minority these days - all 1.2s and more. Big difference in Road Tax!

There's so much choice out there, that I want to limit my search! So far:

Fiesta (I've had two)
Yaris (I had a '91 Starlet, which is still going somewhere!)
Polo
Corsa
Micra
:
Others?

Any contributions appreciated.

Personally I'm not a great fan of:
Fiat, Suzuki, Renault, Peugeot, Daewoo, Citroen, Seat, .....
 
Japanese for reliability. Simple as that. They tend to be cheaper too.

Yaris or Micra then out of your list - Micra more enjoyable to drive than the Yaris IMO. Yaris probably pips it in reliability though.
