I would like to put my case out there and see if people have any suggestions!
I work fulltime as a technician and have an average industrial wage. My husband was sefl employed for almost two years and the business crashed and we went into huge debt. He took a PAYE job after christmas and I remortgaged our home to consolidate all our debts(Of course most companies wouldn't touch us so our interest rate is sky high). Our remortgage came through a few weeks backand within 24hours of us recieving the money my husband was rushed to hospital with a virus on his heart. (We are both 30). He has now been told he could possibly be a year off work recovering. He has no PRSI contributions for 2005 as he was self employed. My wages don't even cover the €1600/month mortgage repayment and €900 childcare (we have 2 children aged 5 and 1) and he isn't well enough to mind the kids! We have both worked hard in Ireland all our adult lives, surely he's entitled to something from the state??
