hi,

I have some friends coming up at the weekend and as we'll be in town, we want to go for lunch. Any recommendations for somewhere good and reasonable. No just pub grub but somewhere nice. An average priced lunch menu too..

No shortage of places - you could try Menupage.ie for tips.

Some of my favourites:

There are two good places on Camden Street

Green Nineteen - http://www.green19.ie

Neon -http://www.neon17.ie

Very reasonable and good fun.

Dunne and Crescenzi in Sth Frederick Street

Real treat - but cost adds up - Locks Brasserie on the canal

thanks Mf1. Been to green nineteen and its great. Havent been to neon yet (that's the vietnamese place right?). Also been to locks. They're ever so slightly out of the way though. I guess somewhere around the grafton street region would be perfect.

Exchequer bar is excellent. Fallon and Byrne. Avoca. Peploes. Bang. One Pico.

My wife and sisters were in the Green Hen a couple of weeks ago for an extended saturday lunch and haven't stopped raving about it since then.

They try a new restaurant every few weeks and rate this one very highly.

My better half speaks highly of The Larder in Parliment St. They do a lunch special but I don't know if this applies on Saturdays. Check out their website.

Thanks all, I knew someone would name somewhere I wanted to go but had forgotten about. Green Hen it is..what a lovely menu!!!

One Pico is next on my list though. The website for the larder doesnt seem to be working but will check it out again soon.
thanks.

There is a new restaurant opening in Dawson street. The Chef, Mickael Viljanen, won chef of the year last year at Gregan's castle. I ate there once for a special occasion. The food was like art on a plate and tasted fabulous.

It's called the greenhouse. It's on Dawson Street. Looking forward to having lunch/dinner there. It's to open next week.

Some pics from his twitter page.

Thanks Marion, I love going to new places and seeing whats on offer. I would rather only eat out every 6months and enjoy it than every fortnight on something trashy.

If you get there before the rest of us, will you report back?

And yes, I will give a report from the Green Hen..;)

I'll have to come back with the Green Hen report. Unfortunately, the people I was due to meet didnt make it so we'll have to do it again.

So I finally got to the Green Hen. It was quite busy on Saturday but the service was still excellent and the food was excellent. I had the roast poussin and my friend had the clam and mussel linguine and they were both perfect. We didnt have deserts as it was too much food at lunchtime but I would highly recommend it. Will definitely be returning for evening dinner there.
