    Hi there,
I am abroad for the next few months. A top up has been approved on my mortgage. Can I give power of attorney to a solicitor in Ireland even though I'm overseas or is it essential to be in his presence in order to carry it out?

Yes you can. But most solicitors would not do it. Why? You change your mind down the road, you get into financial difficulties and want out of the mortgage etc.,etc.

Plus I have a theory that if you want to do major personal transactions you should make yourself available for all the time consuming stuff that goes with it.
