Planning permission for backyard shed

Hi, just wondering what the regulations are if any as to building a back yard shed?
This 'shed' is block and I'm wondering are there rules as to how tall it can be? how close to the neighbours boundary wall it can be?
Indeed what are the regulations? I know you don't need planning for a shed as such but there must surely be some rules!

As suggested in the article above, most local authorities have a guide online detailing what they allow under the Exempted Development schedule of the planning acts, here's SDCC's for example.

If you want to go bigger or fall foul of any of the other exempted development requirements you can apply for planning permission to build what you'd looking for.
