Overheated car in flames in OConnell st Dublin

Just saw this in the news. What are the main reasons for this. Just worried in case it might happen to me. I always keep an eye on the temperature gauge
 
Haven't seen the new there, but It's very rare for a car to go up in flames these days, but the main reason I would say is the catalytic converter on the exhaust coming into contact with some foreign object picked up from the road or the plastic under trays being pushed up from underneath via rolling over a football, you have more chances of winning the lotto than being the victim of such thing.
