Laya Out patient treatment - travel costs

Hi

My wife has to travel for chemotherapy to another location about 1.5 hours from where we live. Does anyone know if it possible to claim expenses for this travel with our health insurance provider? The cost of petrol etc. is causing a serious dent in our finances.

The health insurance providers cover accommodation costs upto 100 euro for one night for each appointment.
Its listed under 'Outpatient Cover' sub-heading 'Cancer Support Benefit'.
You could ask if that 100 euro cover could be applied to travel costs but I wouldn't be too hopeful, its worth a try.

The Irish Cancer Society have a scheme for claiming travel expenses for chemo or scan appointments.
It is called the Travel2Care scheme and the following link shows all the details attached.

Alternatively, there is also a 'Volunteer Driver Service' which may or not suit your location, to save on travel costs.
