I cannot seem to unravel this for my mother. She is a qualified adult with a non contributory state pension. My father is in a nursing home and his private and most of his state pension is needed to payment for that. We are trying to figure out if she would be better off with a pension in her own right (i.e. not a qualified adult), can someone shed some light on this situation please?
