There are only a few banks going to be left in the market next year providing self build mortgages. If I wanted to use 1 bank for the build and at the end of the build switch to a different bank offering a better fixed rate, rather than staying with that bank and moving from variable to fixed, what date does the minimum period being with the self build bank apply? The first drawdown date at the commencement of the build or the final drawdown payment at which point you normally switch a fixed rate (I don't know if this is considered a "new" mortgage at that time by that bank or not). Would I have to wait 12 months on a less preferable fixed rate? Any thoughts? Thanks.
