Thinking about getting married abroad in Italy. How easy is this to do. What do we need to do this..paperwork etc?
Can anyone recommend a travel agency who specialise this that could book everything for us. Also any ideas on the cost compared to Ireland???.

i was looking into this myself a bit - i found a travel agency in newbridge who do Italian weddings www.newbridgetravel.ie No idea if they're any good but you could check them out. From what I found research-wise once you have all the forms completed in good time, it seems relatively easy.
 
If you try www.weddingsonline.ie they have a weddings abroad section.

Be warned, it is the most addictive site I've ever been on, bitching, cat-fights, even some hair pulling on a good day!
Mostly just good wedding/relationship advice though!

I got married in Venice last month and arranged it through www.weddingsitaly.com and dealt with a girl called Federica who was absolutely lovely! we were married in the Town Hall in Venice and it was FABULOUS! However, if you are wanting a church wedding in a Catholic church over there, you have to be married in a registry office three months beforehand or something silly like that. We were given our marriage certificate on the day too. As we have friends who live outside Venice and we have been there before, we didnt need Federica to organise flowers, reception etc. It cost us 1600 for the town hall fees and Weddings In Italy fees. When we came out of the town hall we were thrown into a gondola by the mates and we must be on at least 50 videos in different countries by now as everyone on the bridges were clapping and taking pics (v embarrassing!!!). Id recommend Venice and Id recommend Federica - whom I never spoke to by the way, only emailed and transferred fees by electronic transfer. Tip - DONT go on the lash with all the mates and family the night before (like all 23 of us did) and give yourself PLENTY of time the next morning (we got married at 12.30pm) OR ELSE YOU'LL GET LOST (like we all did but that added to the hilarity of whole thing!!!). Ah, it was absolutely brilliant and despite what people say, Venice is not so expensive - we were lucky that we've been there before - we organised apartments for ourselves and stayed away from restaurants near San Marco. I cant wait to back in August...!
 
Got married in Rome just over two years ago. Best decision we ever made. There is some extra paperwork, but otherwise it's perfect.

We didn't use any commercial agency - my Mrs did all the work herself with the help of a very nice Irish Brother based over there. Will get his e-mail and post it. He arranges absolutely everything - flowers, photographer, church, meal and any other requests you may have.

The only downside is deciding what to do with the €15k you save?

Hi,

I got married in Venice last May and used a company from Venice. Here is the website details, http://www.wedding-in-venice.com/Eng/index.htm Cannot recommend this company enough and Chiara who helped us organise everything, we saved a fortune by using her as we had no connections in Italy. Didn't use any of the Irish or UK companies as they were too slow to respond or didn't respond at all and some the quotes were ridiculous. Check the website for the testimonials which back me up. Best of Luck.

What is that based on? Anybody else have any ideas on what sort of savings you can make?
