Hello,

I am not Irish and have never lived in your country but I have recently been offered a job in Dublin on a basic salary of 60k and a contractually guaranteed 5k bonus so 65k per annum earnings I suppose.

I am in my early 30s, single with no children.

I have heard horror stories of the costs of Ireland. Will this be enough to live a life?

Sorry if this wrong place.

Where will you be based in Dublin?

Will you be working from the office every day or from home?

The big problem you will have is finding somewhere to stay.

Renting is not just very expensive but there is very little available.

I think I would advise people against moving to Dublin unless they have friends here with whom they can share a house.

Ask you employer if they can help with accommodation e.g. there may be other employees of a similar age who are renting a house near your place of work.

My son and my niece have both moved to Dublin in the last year, to take up employment at a salary about half this.

They both found accommodation after much looking. After years on a student lifestyle, they now can't spend all the money they earn.

So, they are in their early 20s?

The OP is in his/her early 30s and probably doesn't want to eat crisp sandwiches anymore.

Brendan
Yes they are in their early 20s, which is why I mentioned the student lifestyle. However accommodation isn't discounted for 20 somethings and they aren't living on crisps. They can afford to travel, socialise etc.

Obviously , will this be enough to live a life depends very much on what your expectations are, but €65k is well over the average salary.

Do you have any debts that you need to service?
Do you have a modest or an extravagant lifestyle?
I presume that you will be taxed under the Irish system?
In which case €60-65K gross will be c. €43-€46K net per annum.
Accommodation will presumably be your main cost.
But otherwise I would imagine that €60-65K gross would be plenty to live comfortably.
But "comfort" is subjective once basic needs have been accounted for.
Good luck! :)

€65,000 starting salary for someone with no responsibilites is fine. The biggest issue is rent and finding somewhere to live. If you want your own place, you will obviously pay a lot more than if you are sharing a house with others. After that, it's down to how expensive your lifestyle is. If you go out a lot and spend in high end shops, you'll have no problem spending all your money.

A gross salary of €5,000 a month with 5% taken out for a pension will see you with €3,450 a month net income. A tax calculator is attached.

Others have said it but it bears repeating, your standard of living will depend totally on your tolerance for sharing accomodation, potentially with strangers.

A one-bedroom apartment in Dublin could easily cost you half of net salary. Sharing a jaded four-bedroom house with three others could cost you as little as 20% of net salary.

Car ownership is also very expensive in Ireland and public transport is not so great in Dublin, so bear that in mind.

But if you are happy sharing a house and walking/cycling to get around then €60k plus bonus would provide a nice standard of living.

In addition, where will you be working? It may be easier initially to rent outside of Dublin or in the suburbs and commute in via train/Luas until you get your bearings and get to know people and would also be cheaper.

I find numbeo.com excellent and And fairly accurate for comparing cities

If you renting in Ireland in 1 bed apartment if you do not want to share, rent minimum 2k a month, 24K a year, So to take home 24K a year in Ireland on 40% tax bracket , you need to earm minimum 40K ish. 60K a year as per PWC Calculator is about 3,700 net a month . No pension, no Health Care included in calculation.
