Looking at importing a classic car from USA. Have done the UK import thing a few times but have no idea how to approach USA market. VRT? cant check the model I want on VRT site, shipping costs? Any other costs?

Anyone done this before?

Cheers

if the car is 30 years old there's no VRT, but a small fee of around 50 euro.
However, watch out for 21% VAT on the purchase price in Euro's

might be worth ringing the VRO office or www.revenue.ie regarding VAT

You will first have to Pay 10% Common Customs Tarrif (CCT) on the CIF value of the vehicle (The cost of the car landed here in Ireland including purchase cost, freight, insurance, handling and fees.)

You add this to the CIF cost and then add VAT at 21%.

Cars are normally shipped from the states in containers, and shipping is typically in the region of $ 1500 to $ 2,400 depending on the size of the vehicle.

Port charges here in Dublin are approx € 300.

If the car is less than 30 years old then you will have to pay VRT. This can be difficult to assess on an american classic.
