Importing a camper from the UK

Hi I am thinking of buying a camper in England and taking it over here. All advice greatly appreciated! Does the VRT go by the purchase price of the camper? For example the more the camper costs (newer camper) the more VRT. The cheaper the camper (older camper) the less VRT??

VRT is based on the OMSP (open market selling price) here of the camper and has little to do with the price you paid for it in the UK.
The OMSP is set by Revenue based on what a similar camper would sell at from a dealer. So yes, the younger the camper the higher the VRT.
There would/could likely also be customs duty / vat payable also.
My advice is to do your homework before purchasing.

They will also charge extra for any modifications from the standard model.
This could also include the interior.

VRT will be calculated on whatever Revenue decide it is worth here, and that will generally be way more than what you pay for it. If it's from one of the main manufacturers, you may be able to find it in the revenue website to get an estimate in advance. Buying from England you will also be required to pay Customs & VAT, if buying from a dealer, you may be able to arrange buying it ex-VAT for export.

I hear more people are buying from Germany now, some using a couple of specialist dealers here to help source them.
