I (eek...) am going to be forty shortly - although I still feel about 19.

My parents want to get me a signature gift, but reckon I am hard to buy for. I too, would like something other than cash.

My problem is -

- I have tons of jewellery and several good watches
- I have no room on my walls for new art!
- The only thing I really need is new delph - but that's hardly lasting
- I've already got the front page of the Irish Times from the day I was born

Any ideas? Not jokey, this is something that I want to be something I will have forever.

A trip somewhere with them? You'll always have the memories. Being 40 and still having both your parents is something to celebrate.

I would go for designer clothes - a suit, jacket or coat is really special, will last years and always stand out.

I don't think the trip is a goer - we went out for my dad's 60th and it was the first time I really felt like an adult with them....it was just after 9/11 - so we booked to go to New York (neither had been). Got there, Mam and I went to Little Italy as my dad hobbled back to hotel...got back - no dad...he'd met a tramp and gone drinking in Alphabet City. Opened the door at 3am going 'I'm home..!' Went to bus tour where a transvestite asked him out. On plane on way home, Mam said she must know how Kofi Annan feels!
