Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me. We are thinking of taking out the family plan A (before 1st november) and are wondering are maternity consultant fees covered under the "specialist consultant fees". They also told me any scans or prenatal tests are covered under the same heading (specialist investigations).

I know you get a birth grant for €700 after birth of your child under a separate heading. I have laya simply connect for my hospital charges. Laya have told me I can't claim back anything from them for prenatal screening and scans.

Is hsf family plan A the best one to go for? We are a family of 3.
We are hoping to try for our next baby soon and planning on going private. I need to take any HSF plan out 10 months before birth.
Would like to claim back as much as possible.
Thanks a million.

Familyof3,

I have no personal experience of a HSF plan.
Just to note, there is the 10 month maternity waiting time to serve so while the 700 birth grant would be paid if the actual birth is after the
10 months, if any scans or consultant visits fall within the 10 month waiting time - they would not be covered. Just something to be aware of when
making a claim.
The HSF would confirm if maternity consultant fees are covered under the 'specialist consultant fees' or maybe other posters might have personal
experience of this.

Regards, Snowyb

yes snowyb i know about the 10 month wait for birth grant.they had previously told me there was no wait on scans etc for pregnancy. I have just rang them and they told me there is a 10 month wait ;(
for anyone interested maternity fees are covered under the consultant fees. I wonder could you claim back for remainder of fees once past the 10 months? fees are paid at 12 weeks (wouldn't have it 10 months), 28 weeks (may have it 10 months) and 36 weeks (would definitely have it 10 months)? trying to get back through to them but no joy ;(
