Hi,
My wife is currently on Maternity Leave and is currently considering going on a 3 day week. She has been in the health service for 22 years contributing to a pension.
She has been advised by her manager to be careful because when she retires her pension will be based on the previous 2 years salary.
Am I understanding this correctly and does all the previous contributions count for nothing.
I'm in the private sector and with my pension all contributions accumulate.
Am I interpreting this correctly?

Pension is based on final salary, averaged over last few years.

However, if you job-share, or go part-time, this does not mean that the pension is based on half your final annual salary.

What is does mean is that if you work 3 days pw, you only accumulate service at a 60% rate, i.e. in a year you will accrue 0.6 years of service.
