Holiday Cottage/Log Cabin Planning Permission

I am currently renovating a cottage on a large rural site with a view to possible holiday rental. When I bought the site there was a mobile home in situ in which the previous owners had lived for several years ( appr. '02)
Would I have any leverage if I looked for permission to erect a second cottage or even a log cabin on the site where the mobile home currently stands, given that it has been there for such a long time?

I wouldn't think so as a mobile home, no matter how long it was lived in, is a temporary structure and not a permanent dwelling house. I would imagine that it would be like trying to get planning permission to build a residential housing development on lands which previously contained a caravan park. They are looked upon as different use classes.
