Hi all,
Looking for advice for my parents they are on the old plan b options.
I think it is now called health plus extra.
They are in their late 60’s and have always been with vhi.
I think the renewal date is 1st March. Dad has had numerous orthopaedic operations and a knee replacement. The beacon waived the 10% shortfall on the knee.
They also have 2 teenagers on their policy. I am guessing the teenagers are on the above plan too!

Looking for alternative options. They have yet been able to claim anything back from day to day.

I think Dad would prefer to stay with vhi.

Thanks a million.

Familyof3,

The nearest alternative option with similar cover to Health Plus Extra is VHI HealthPlus Access.

1. VHI HealthPlus Access; price 1932pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, no excess on this plan.
good day to day cover but the first 100 not allowed. Full orthopaedic cover as before.
This plan would suit your father as it has no excess.

Thanks snowy.
I am guessing a move to laya simplicity trumps all the above?

If he were to move how would it work with regard to his knee?
vhi only covered 90% but beacon waived the 10%.....would the beacon continue to waive the shortfall if he needed another one?
Thanks

Yes, Simplicity would tick all the boxes that they would require.

I didn't recommend any Laya plans as I thought VHI was the preference.

There's full cover in Beacon for the orthopaedic stuff on Simplicity plan.
The 10% would continue to be waived in Beacon if more knee surgery is required, after switching.

The only other extra cover on Simplicity plan is full cover for a private room in a private hospital, not fully covered on Healthplus Extra.
There would be a 2 year wait, only in respect of pre-existing conditions for a private room to be fully covered.

For any new illnesses, the private room in a private hospital will be covered straight away on Simplicity plan.

There is substantial savings to be made by switching plans, if they don't mind changing providers.

Ok great! There is another simplicity....they one with €1 excess on day to day....connect simplicity. Is there any wait period for them?

I am going to try and convince them to switch to laya! Is sports clinic covered with laya?
For the teenagers what would you recommend? stay with vhi or laya if parents switch

Familyof3,

Yes, Santry Sports Clinic is covered with Laya, upto and including a private room fully covered on Simplicity or Connect Simplicity,
except for pre-existing conditions/illnesses. Pre-existing conditions/illnesses fully covered in a semi-private room. After 2 years, private room
fully covered for pre-existing illnesses.

Either Simplicity or Connect Simplicity are well worth considering. Same hospital cover on both plans. The difference between them is the
private excess amounts for admissions or day case procedures in private hospitals or hi-tech hospitals. Also the day to day excess.
Comparison as follows;

1. Laya Simplicity plan; price 1231pa; all public, private(including private room fully covered) + 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech
hospital excess capped at 100 x 2 max per year for all admissions(regardless of how many). Day case excess 50 per procedure in private or
hi-tech hospitals. There is no excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover, refund of 50% for consultant visits, physio, gp, etc
but the first 100 not allowed.

2. Laya Connect Simplicity plan; price 1329pa; all public, private(including private room fully covered) + 3 hi-tech hospitals covered,
private/hi-tech hospital excess capped at 150 x 2 max per year for all admissions(regardless of how many). Day case excess 100 per procedure
in private or hi-tech hospitals. There is no excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover included, refund of 50% for consultant
visits, physio, gp etc with a 1 euro excess. There is no waiting regarding the 1 euro excess, cover applies straight away.

Note; as already mentioned, there is a 2 year wait (only for any pre-existing illnesses/conditions) for the extra cover which is; 'full cover for a private room in a private hospital'. This extra cover is allowed straight away for any new illnesses/conditions, no waiting applies.

If private room cover in a private hospital is not a priority, an alternative option to consider is Simply Connect plan.
Details as follows;
3. Laya Simply Connect; price 1100pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess capped at 150 x 2 max per
year for all admissions (regardless of how many). Day case excess 50 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital.
Good day to day cover included, 1 euro excess, refund of 50% for gp visits, consultants, physio, dental etc - subject to a max refund of 500
per year. (50% of 1000 = 500). No waiting on this plan as cover is similar as before.
