I have recently moved into a third (top) floor apartment with my GF. It didn’t really bother me untill I smelt smoke coming from the apt below me yesterday, prob burnt diner or something. But, it just snapped that were both screwed if the lad below us falls asleep on his couch with a cigarette etc. So, I have decided to try come up with a fire escape plan should something like this happen. Fingers crossed it wont, but since I'm renting, should it be up to the landlord to provide this and the necessary fire fighting equipment in my fault? And If i am to buy an escape ladder or the likes, should it be up to the landlord to pay for it?
