Hi,

I have been living in Australia for over 2 years and I plan on coming home at the end of this year. I have two vehicles that I wish to bring home with me. I was wondering if anyone has done something similar?

I had heard conflicting stories, I know that I will not have to pay VRT but do I have to pay VAT of 21%?

Any advice/information greatly appreciated.

No VRT or VAT if you can prove you've owed the car for 6 months.

link may be useful.

You might get stung for VAT as you are outside the EU.

Top Gear tested a muscle car from OPEL/ Vauxhall not sure which in Aus I think it was called a muriva a V8 coupe seemed relatively cheap. Not too practical for Ireland, but what a car.

As was mentioned have a look at www.revenue.ie You could probably mail them to find out exactly what you need or where you stand.

Are cars sheap in Aus. look at www.carzone.ie for prices here.

Like I say, no VAT if car owned for 6 months (not relevant that car is outside EU at present). I imported a car from the US a few years ago, having owned it over there for a year. No VAT or VRT payable.
