MAKE THE PIE HIGHER
by George W. Bush

I think we all agree, the past is over.
This is still a dangerous world.
It's a world of madmen and uncertainty
and potential mental losses.

Rarely is the question asked
Is our children learning?
Will the highways of the Internet become more few?
How many hands have I shaked?

They misunderestimate me.
I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity.
I know that the human being and the fish can coexist.
Families is where our nation finds hope, where our wings take dream.

Put food on your family!
Knock down the tollbooth!
Vulcanize society!
Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher!

This Make the Pie Higher!" piece was put together by Washington Post writer Richard Thompson. Every statement listed in the ‘poem’ was traced to its source to determine whether they were actually uttered by George W. Bush. In order to consider a statement to be a genuine "Bushism" it had to appear in at least one major newspaper article that quoted the actual words spoken (rather than paraphrasing them), included specific information about when and where the statement was made, and was printed within a few days of the event at which the statement was offered.

It was found that the accuracy of quote transmission was remarkably high: All but one of the items in this piece could be reliably traced back to the mouth of George W. Bush
