how does one go about getting these and are the charges high ???

i only run a small business and it might not be finanically benifical for me to have them but in another way it s a good service to have

2-3% of the value for CC transactions
~€40 for the terminal per month

I heard yesterday from a client of mine that they were quoted €3,500 by their bank for a merchant terminal. Not sure if I took her up wrong? Maybe someone could confirm...

Check out www.realex.com really good company and friendly. They will use a basic internet connection to service your account.Fees are competitive, not sure who you bank with but they have a good commerical relationship with Ulster Bank - if you bank with UB the fees can be even lower.

Ulster Bank are cheapest at around 18 euros plus vat a month and 2.75% on transactions.
But it depends on your business, it is is web based solely it is virtually impossable to get a merchant account so paypal is a good option for this.
