Can you have a bank account while bankrupt?

Yes you can. Google search would have given you loads of information such as [broken link removed]

It can take a while (week or two) to get it open as there is a bit more internal admin required. Certainly the case in my experience with my new bank.

I had a bank account with PTSB that had a few euro(less than a tenner) and it was not closed when I was bankrupt. There was no overdraft on the account and PTSB weren't owed any money so maybe this had a bearing on it. The OA office told me that PTSB are one of the easier banks for a bankrupt to operate with so perhaps you could open an account prior to being declared bankrupt.

My understanding is that bank accounts are only closed where money is owed to the creditor bank. If I had opened an account with another bank a few weeks in advance of bankruptcy it would not have been closed.
