I am just getting my head around book-keeping and VAT.
The accounts are for a self employed person providing catering services to a charity. Essentially it's a cook, with one assistant, providing meals to a day care centre.
There are a lot of receipts from supermarkets which do not show the VAT breakdown on the receipt.
I know food stuffs are generally charged at 0%, however there are other goods like cleaning, cakes etc which I thought would have VAT included in the price paid.
How do I work out the VAT charged....or am I supposed to?
Also while Charities are generally VAT exempt....am I correct in saying that the invoice we issue to the charity for services provided should still include VAT at 13.5%.
