back to work enterprise allowance

Anyone any experience with this allowance. I expect to be let go in the new year, but am conscience not to set up any company or sole trader in case this affects my application for the back to work enterprise allowance. Do I have to meet a specific criteria to be considered for this scheme?

Can I take any steps before I'm let go?
 
Hi Derek

In order to qualify for the scheme you must be unemployed and signing on. if you set up your business you will be self employed and therefore ineligable.

I would recommend that you dont do anything at the moment. If you are made redundant, the second you sign on make an appointment with your local partnership and arrange to go onto the scheme. They will arrange all the paperwork for you for free. take this time to do your research and ensure it is a viable business. You will need to be able to demonstrate this to them. it will not be a "dragons den" experience but you do need to show you have thought about things.
