Maybe value the clock before repair? I had an antique clock (maybe > 100 years) and was told to even get a repair estimate, it would cost €100, and then, who knows what cost to repair? I brought it home and love it, even though it doesn’t work.

Entirely sentimental, but priceless to me; so happy to pay for repairs.

Definitely something to bear in mind, one of my pet hates is a very loud ticking clock, drives me nuts, as if I'm not bad enough as it is, cuckoo clock would not last long in our house
