Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in prison in Russia.
He was an incredibly brave man and someone who I admired deeply. It's not fashionable to have heroes these days but if I had to pick one he would have been close to the top of my list.

So true Purple but such an awful waste of a great man

He should have stayed in Germany where he may have been able to do something behind the scenes for the poor Russian people. He will be a martyr but that's no use to his family or 'the cause'. Putin rules with such an iron fist that even after this terrible deed it doesn't look as if anything is going to change for a long, long time, unfortunately.
