If the pension has stopped being paid into what happens to it?can it be withdrawn or is it left there to restart hopefully in the future?

Whatever is in it when you stop paying ramains in the fund gathering whatever interest or investment return it can. Upon retirement, the fund buys whatever annuity it can, which is your pension. In theory, the more you pay into the fund, the bigger your pot on retirement, and accordingly, the bigger the annuity it buys. In these times, however, who the hell knows.
