I approached a retail outlet in Kilkenny and asked if they could fit a new battery to an iPhone 5. They quoted me a price of €25 and a half-hour maximum turn-around time.

I asked if the battery was Apple original and what warranty there would be on the new battery and the work. I was told "none" as they had no control over how I used the phone or the battery.

I believe they are breaking the law and if they are how do I report them?

There is no requirement to provide a warranty as such.

But you have rights under the Sale of Goods (?) Act. Goods must be fit for purpose. If it's faulty, then you can return it.

I don't think you can get original batteries. They are all third party ones unless Apple repairs it. I could be mistaken.

Its about 15 mins work to fit one yourself. Need to a bit delicate about it, but its not hard.
