Noticed my A/C is not a cool as it used to be, may need a recharge? It's my 1st car with A/C, 4.5 years old. How long does a charge last, and most importantly is a recharge going to breeak the bank? it's a Honda Accord - I'd expect a Honda dealer to fleece me, I'm sure this can be done at an independent garage

Got my Mondeo (1999) re-gassed last summer by an independent dealer, cost €120. 6 years without a problem. A lot of main dealers don't have the gear so they just recommend a local specialist that has the equipment. I suspect that this situation will change as most new cars now have aircon and main dealers will have to equip themselves with the required equuipment.

A/C should be used regularly, as this circulates the lubricant. If not used in a while, seals may start to fail which would be a big job to sort out.
