Has anyone purchased an elliptical strider from Argos.

Re: Thunder thighs.

and are those ab-cruncher machines just a gimmick?

Re: Thunder thighs.

Any device that purports to make crunches/sit-ups easier, more efficient, safer sounds like a bit of a gimmick to me! ;)

Re: Thunder thighs.

Well, Samantha Mumba does 10,000 situps every morning so they can't be too bad for you!!!

Re: Thunder thighs.

Indeed! Samantha Mumba's 10,000 sit-ups do me the power of good anyway! :lol

Anyone out there without a pot belly?

So, I guess the answer is "no" then?

Any recommendations then for a not too expensive exercise machine that someone already owns and finds useful.

Re: Anyone out there without a pot belly?

Exercise bikes usually come in as very usefull clothes hangers.....

Re: Anyone out there without a pot belly?

There is an eliptical strider in my house at home, I assume that you mean the skiing-type machine?

I don't use it so much now because I play football about three times a week, but I have an aunt (she's about 55) who does about an hour a day on hers and lost a lot of weight. She swears by it. Set it up in front of your television just when your favourite program is coming on (It was the Simpsons at 6pm when I was using it) and before you know it you'll have 30 mins of exercise done.

but like all exercise at home it only depends on whether you actually use it or not.

In terms of how it compares to other exercise equipment, I'd recommed it because it is very low impact and won't mess up your knees like a treadmill can.

The one we bought was from Elvery's for just under 200. there are more expensive ones but this does the job very well.

.

If you're thinking of buying a home exercise machine, I'd advise you to try out several in a gym first (most gyms will let you have a free trial session if they think you're going to join)

I was considering buying a treadmill a few years back, but I joined a gym instead. After a few weeks of using the treadmill, I was having knee problems, so I had to switch to the elliptical cross trainer. Turned out it was just the right machine for me and I love using it, but you want to be sure before buying that it's the right machine for your body. Who knows, a cross trainer might cause you to have neck/shoulder problems

We've bought a York home gym and a Kettler exercise bike from Argos, and we're very happy with both of them, (the bike in particular is very solid and well built) but unless you know exactly what you want, it might be better to go somewhere like VJ's near Blanchardstown so you can try out different machines

IMHO the elliptical cross trainers with movable arms give a pretty good arm workout, and would be well worth any extra money. Look for a machine with good smooth movement that is comfortable for your size and shape.

Re: .

Don't mean to be smart or anything (this time anyway! ;) ) but rather than a cycle exercise machine it's much more fun and arguably even better from an exercise point of view to get an ordinary bike and get out into the open air.

.

Yes but lets be realistic here. At 8pm on a wet windy winter's night am I likely to head out for a cycle? (Tip: answer = no :D ) Even if the weather didn't put me off, the traffic and the weirdos lurking around every corner would.

I also do a lot of my exercise while the dinner's cooking. I can stay fit, and make sure it doesn't burn! It's also handy for catching up on the news, reading the papers, doing my nails, telephone banking, watching DVDs etc. Now if the bike only had an internet connection... ;)

As Clubman said earlier "don't mean to be smart or anything (this time anyway! :) " but I cannot resist the
temptation to point out having read the above I wonder if the weirdos are really the ones lurking around the corners or the ones in the kitchen trying to accomplish all of the above!

:lol

Re: Thunder thighs.

Re: Anyone out there without a pot belly?

I got one from Argos a few months ago and do find it good I would agree with dmrtn with regard to the fact that it is low impact and therefore is far easier on the joints. Personally I f****d up my knee a few years ago playing sport and therefore find it good.
Remember it is useless unless u use it.

Re: Thunder thighs.

I reckon the cheapest place for gym equipment is Buy and Sell. Have a look at the stuff there all never used or as good as new. Leverage someone elses failed ambition.

Re: Thunder thighs.

Question for those who may have one of these - I'm thinking of buying one except thst the room I would have it in has timber floorboards (carpeted) and I was wondering would the racket be heard down below if it were in use ?

The real Thunder Thighs.

I have placed my order with Argos today. Delivery time 28 days. I will report back on my progress. Thank you for all of your comments and advice.

Slurry.

Educate to lose weight

For the fellas on this thread (sorry girls)

I can heartily recommend checking out the Men's Health website which has several posts that deal with men's fitness. I myself have never been in a gym in my life but I have a good set of York weights and a bench in my garage which I use 3 times a week. It was only after I bought them that I realised I hadn't a clue how to use them. Did come research and found a book called "The Testosterone Advantage", which gives a brilliant 9 week programme of weight exercises and food planning. I didn't follow it religiously but I'm seeing significant results and my eating habits have changed forever. I'm now eating way more than I ever have and I'm lighter and trimmer than I've ever been. check it out.
