Cheque Cashing

Hi there,

I need some help or an opinion on this...
So I was given a blank cheque by my mother, she gave it to me so I could pay rent and well to have money.
But the thing is my account is already in overdraft so I'm afraid that if I lodge the cheque it will pay the overdraft (plus I don't really have 3 days to wait to clear it)
My question is, since her signature is on it can I make the cheque out to cash? Im with Permanent TSB and so is she.

Thanks

I am a bit confused. Is the payee on the cheque blank? So you can just write in 'cash' rather than a person's name?

Unless the cheque is very large (triggering money-laundering precuations) you can make it out to cash, or you can make it out to yourself, and present it at her bank for payment. If a cheque has not been crossed, the bank on which it is drawn is obliged to cash it. If they don't know you personally, they can require proof of identity.

You are lucky that your mother is willing and able to help you out. Remember that when she is old, and might need your support.
