Hi everyone, Going to New york in April with the boyfriend and he is dying to see a live game in Madison Square Garden while we're there. We're going 25th April for 3 nights, but when i go to any of the NBA or NHL sights all the games seem to end about the 6th and doesnt say anything about when playoff tickets go on sale!!! Can anyone shed a bit of light on this for me... thanks

Re: Playoff tickeys in new york

In the NBA, the New York Knicks play at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately for you boyfriend they are already eliminated from the play-offs having currently an appalling 20-52 record this season...

The Rangers in the NHL will probably make the playoffs but tickets don't go on sale until the matchups are made.

when i went to new york before i bought tickets for a sold out NHL game on ebay and had the tickets delivered to the hotel. worked out well, and i didn't end up paying over the odds.
best of luck getting them

I recently went to a load of sporting events in NY (including quarters, semis and finals of Us open tennis). I used a number of sources for tickets.

Craigslist is very good (esp for NY) and the sellers/brokers will come to your hotel. Prices can be a little more but if you wait until about 3 hours before the game, great deals can be had. http://www.craigslist.com

Stubhub is excellent too. You'll need an American Credit Card though or a friend who can buy you them for you. If the deadline is at 12pm on the day of the game, ticket prices plummet about 5 minutes before, we picked up a couple of tickets on this. http://www.stubhub.com

Finally Ticketcity are a US wide broker. They Fedex tickets to your hotel the day before, their prices fluctuate, but they have huge choice. They are great for any worldwide event. I got great value tickets to the Rugby World Cup last year delivered direct to Dublin. http://www.ticketcity.com

Meant to say that in baseball you could go see the NY Mets who are at home from 25 April. (Un)fortunately the Yankees are away that week...

In terms of the NHL, www.NHL.com will give you all the details you need. Regular season ends on Sunday with playoffs starting the following week. I've always sourced my tickets from this official site in the past with no problems

One other option may be the New Jersey Devils but I undestand getting out to their stadium is a bit of a pain

baseball is a good day out, as long as you accept that half the fun is the food, beer and people watching

Thansk so much everyone for all the replys... Checking all your websites and links to see what kind of deal i can get.. When do the teams start matching up for the playoffs?? Is the normal season over yet??

Hockey season finishes next Sunday, play off games won't be decided until then and probably won't be up on the web until Monday
