hi there i have been tax as a single man since before i got married . i recently got married to my partner whom we have a child together for the last 4 and 1/2 years. what can i claim for now that im married , i know i can claim her credits as she is a carer. but anything else .

Hi,

You will continue to be taxed as single people for the remainder of the year in which you are married. You need to inform Revenue of date of marriage. If you are due any tax back you can claim after the year end.

You can make use of your wife's unused personal tax credit and standard rate band, up to a limit of 41,800 (hopefully will increase in the budget).

Revenue have a very thorough guide on the taxation of married couples.
