Been asked this and wasn't sure of the answer. What is the position if someone in receipt of JSB starts to look for work and can only find small pieces of work that would be on a self employed basis.

Do they just sign off for the periods they are unavailable for work or are they just not allowed. Will it effect their entitlement to JSB...?

For every day of work they do, they will lose a day's payment. If they work more than 3 days in any one week (Thursday to Wednesday) they will lost their payment for that week.

Sundays aren't included, so you can work 4 days if one of the days is a Sunday.

thanks for the quick reply.

If for arguements sake they secured 3 days work that lasted for 6 months, will their JSB entitlement be extended for beyond the 12 months to take account of the unclaimed JSB that they didn't claim while working those days, or does the JSB entitlement run out then. Hope that's clear !

Their entitlement will be extended. Your full entitlement to JSB is 312 days (provided you have at least 5 years work history behind you). You exhaust one day for each day you remain unemployed, so if you're working part-time you exhaust your entitlement slower than you would if you were out of work full-time. If they're working for 3 days, their entitlment should last for 2 years instead of one as they're only exhausting half their benefit each week!
