Tax subsequent to planning permission

Hi there,

I wonder if you get planning permission on a field that you've owned for over 40 years, but you don't build anything, and you don't sell the field, is there a tax liability? The field was bought with full planning permission for a house back in the early 70s, but the planning permission was allowed to lapse.

Thanks in advance.

I cannot see how there would be a tax liability in the situation you've outlined.

As above- there was no gain made (no sale occurred nor was there a transfer of ownership) so there's no tax arising!

Of course we may not have heard the full story, which wouldn't be the first time on here, and somebody may have died along the 40 years etc changing the whole story.

You have the full story. No deaths, no change of ownership. Thanks for everyone's replies. Really appreciated.
