Rent a room? Live in granny flat?

Sorry if im in the wrong forum. I was going to borrow some money and build a granny flat and rent my house. It will still be my main residence . Can I claim the rent a room scheme for 10k. If i rent the house and live in the granny flat

AFAIK It would not qualify for rent-a-room , This is for renting a room or rooms in your main residence to students or lodgers, if would no longer be your main residence your granny flat would be .You need to be actively living in the house.

You should not make the granny flat completely separate, as in it's part of the house.
