Roughly, how much do people value their contents at for house insurance purposes ? I know it varies a lot depending on what stuff you have in the house .... but a typical 3 bed bog standard house with nothing particulary flash in it .... what do people think is a reasonable value to insure so as not to be either over or under insured ?

You really can only answer this yourself. you might have a 'bogstandard' bed, or a superdooper de luxe model from Harrods; you might have a sound system in your living room, as opposed to a portable tv set.

Its not rocket science to get a bit of paper/calculator and walk from room to room putting a value on all the contents.

Then add something for clothing - again depends on shopping habits - Pennys/Dunnes or BT. Add for kitchen utensils, any books/cd's/dvd'd/ toys etc.

If all was bog standard then you are probably not under insured at €50/60K on contents.

Tx Yeah, I was thinking 60/70 allright. As you say, it clearly depends on what stuff you have ..... but good to have a rough benchmark just to know you are not way out of line.
