maximising return on converting USD to Euro cheque

Hi
Im in receipt of USD cheque in near future
Im wondering how I can maximise the return I get on this when I go to exchange it from USD to Euro's

Aside from the banks are there any other organisations/companies that provide currency conversions services that offer better exchange return and wouldn't charge big commission on transaction

The USD value of the cheque will influence whether it is worth your while to shop around, or not. For example, if USD 1000, is it worth your effort shopping around to save 0.5% ? For USD 100,000, it may be but rates on such amounts are not those given over the counter.

All FX conversion services are commercial and will charge you a commission, either up front or buried in the exchange rate. They're not registered charities .

I've heard good things about Currency Fair (http://www.currencyfair.com/) though I've never used them. As far as I know they are Irish.
