Transfer music from iPod to new Laptop

Is there any free app you can download to transfer music from an iPod to a laptop?

I want to transfer music from my iPod to my partner's laptop so we can combine our music libraries! All my mp3's are stored on a PC in my parents house which is some distance away so the process suggested on the Apple support website (using the iPod as a hard disk to transfer from one PC to another) is not practical as I do not want to have to travel cross country to take the music off my parents' PC.
